Yet our man of God claimed that he drilled over 1000 boreholes across the state mean while his own Nogov are using this type of water for cooking and bathing.

PDP sets agenda for acting IGP Adamu Mohammed; describes Idris Ibrahim’s tenure as shameful

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to immediately commence the re-engineering of the Nigeria Police to restore professionalism and adherence to rules of engagement in the Force.

This is just as the party berates the outgoing Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris, for a shameful and partisan tenure, which destroyed professionalism in the police and compromised the lives and security of Nigerians, adding that he must be held accountable for all the atrocities he committed while in office.

Ibrahim Idris will be remembered as the only IGP in our political history, who surrendered the responsibilities of his exalted office to the whims and caprices of politicians who share courtesies with the Buhari Presidency.

He defied the need to secure troubled areas and watched carelessly while an integral part of our nation was engulfed in bloody clashes.

Idris will also be remembered as that Police Officer, who had a penchant for framing innocent Nigerians with ridiculous allegations. Throughout his inglorious tenure, he functioned as the commander of the militant wing of the APC, just to retain his office and remain in power.

The PDP therefore urges the new Police boss to learn a lesson from the shameful end of Idris as IGP by immediately setting up the process of re-orientating and insulating the Force from partisan politics, while subjecting it to the tenets of democracy and the rule of law.

The PDP urges the police chief to avoid the pitfalls of the last IGP, who has gone down in history as the most corrupt, devious and reckless police officer to hold the post of the IGP in Nigeria.

The party further advices the new police boss to remove all templates of election rigging contained in the hand-over note that will be presented to him by Idris Ibrahim.

The new IGP must also urgently take steps to address the bastardization of promotion in the Police under the last IGP, where officers due for promotion were denied and only those endorsed by a cabal or who have enough money to buy their way through were promoted. This is in addition to immediately setting up a process that guarantee proper welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria police.

He must note that the whole world is watching him and we urge him not to fail the nation, which he owes his allegiance.

Now that Idris Ibrahim has gone the way of leaders disgraced out of office, the PDP counsels all enemies of democracy, including President Buhari’s compromised relation in INEC, Mrs. Amina Zakari, to take heed of the disgrace and infamy that await them at the end of their tenures.

A middle aged man who attempted to commit suicide by trying to jump into the Lagos Lagoon on the third mainland bridge today January 15th, has been rescued by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrolling the area.

A tweet posted on their official twitter handle, stated that the man was prevented from jumping into the Lagoon by officers on patrol along Third Mainland Bridge.

He has been handed over to Adekunle Police Station for investigation.

What happens when bombs explode?

                               

Engineers at the University of Sheffield are getting to the heart of what happens inside an explosion, in a new project aimed at improving the design of bomb protection systems.

The team will be measuring explosions ‘up close’, gathering detailed information from inside the fireball of different types of blast and different environmental conditions, ranging from a land mine to a bomb exploding close to a building.

As global threats from terrorist attacks or from armed conflict increase each year, effective materials, buildings and other structures that can withstand a blast are vital to increase public safety. Despite this, little data has been gathered from actual bomb blasts, so engineers have to rely on computer modelling when designing protection systems.

“Just like earthquakes and hurricanes, real world explosions are unpredictable,” explains lead investigator, Professor Andy Tyas, an expert in blast and impact engineering in the University’s Department of Civil and Structural Engineering.

“Seismic and wind engineers have designed tests to predict how buildings and other structures will respond to these natural disasters, but it’s much harder to do this for explosions.

Although blast engineers do test structures and materials to assess their protection capability, there’s a lot of debate about the reliability of these tests and a heavy reliance on computer modelling of explosions. That’s because we don’t really know what’s going on inside the blast, so we can’t tell for sure how repeatable the tests are.”

The £1.2M project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) will be carried out at the University’s research facilities, in Buxton. The first step will be to improve and adapt the CoBL (Characterisation of Blast Loading) testing equipment, previously used by Professor Tyas and his team to measure the output from shallow buried landmines. New technologies will enable the apparatus to carry out direct measurements of the blast load, in both space and time, to provide detailed data on the aggressive environment after an explosive is detonated very close to a target.

“Blast loading research carried out during the middle of the last century led to a very good understanding of the effects of large blasts over long distances – for example from atomic weapons. But these insights are less useful when looking at modern day blast threats, which are frequently from smaller, close-range explosions,” says Professor Tyas.

“Only by understanding the complex physics and fundamental chemical reactions at play inside the explosion fireball, can we allow our engineers a better understanding of blast loading. These insights will help us design better systems to protect people around the world from explosive attacks.”

2019:  A vote for APC, endorsement of fascism, insecurity – PDP

                               

The PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO), on Tuesday said that a vote for candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is an endorsement of fascism, hunger and insecurity in the country.

The Director Media and Publicity of the PPCO, Kola Ologbondiyan, at a press conference in Abuja, said that Nigeria was becoming a totalitarian state under the present government, adding the February 16 presidential election is a referendum for freedom of Nigerians.

The PPCO said Nigerians should defend the nation’s democracy by voting out the APC in order to restore Nigeria’s past glory and guarantee the security of lives and property as well as revamp the economy.

“The PPCO urges all compatriots to note that any vote for APC is an endorsement of fascism and allowing President Buhari another tenure will be a pathway to full totalitarianism, where citizens would be treated as vassals in a conquered territory.

“We are all witnesses to the unrelenting assault on the institution of the judiciary and the courts by the Buhari Presidency and the APC.

“This siege on the Judiciary has now come to a climax with the widely condemned attempt by the Buhari Presidency and the APC to forcefully remove the Chief Justice of the Nigeria, (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen.

“The world can recall how the Buhari Presidency, in a widely condemned ‘sting operation’ in 2016, used the Directorate of State Services (DSS) to hound and round up sitting Supreme Court and High Court judges in Nigeria.

“Since that ‘sting operation’, our judiciary in Nigeria has remained under siege with the agents of the Buhari Presidency and the APC directly interfering in cases and trying to direct the rulings of courts.

“Nigerians and the world can recall also how agents of the Buhari Presidency and the APC, last year, besieged and attempted to forcefully remove the elected leadership of the National Assembly; the symbol of our democracy.

“Nigerians will also recall how the APC and the Buhari Presidency used apparatus of state powers to seal the legislative complex, unleashed thugs to invade the Senate chamber, disrupted legislative proceedings and forcefully carted away the mace, the emblem of the sovereignty and authority of the people.

“In our slide into fascism, Nigerians are daily falling victims of extreme torture, illegal detention, extra-judicial and arbitrary killings, forceful crackdown on peaceful protesters and mass burial by unrestrained agents of the state, as detailed in the 2017/2018 Amnesty International (AI) Human Rights Report.

“In the same vein, there have been concerted efforts by the government to gag the media leading to the manhandling of journalists and invasion of media houses over reports considered unfavourable to the government,” the PPCO said.

Ganduje commissions N500m electrification project

                              

Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has commissioned the Gada-Biyu Electrification project, executed by his administration at the cost of over N500 million.

The project is aimed at ensuring stable power supply to Gada Biyu and surrounding communities in Doguwa local government area of the state.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ganduje explained that the government decided to execute the project so as to improve economic activities in Doguwa local government area.

“This project will enable you to engage in several economic activities linked with power besides providing electricity for your domestic use”, he stated.

“I want to appeal to you to make good use of this project and to protect the electrical installations from vandalism”, he added.

According to him, “such life-changing projects are the types of development initiatives that the APC has brought to Nigerians. If you vote for our party gain in the next general elections, more dividends of democracy will be delivered to you.”

Dr. Ganduje also stated that the state government has, among other things, constructed two bridges, a water treatment plant and a new local government secretariat at the neighbouring Tudun Wada local government, urging the people to vote for President Buhari and all APC candidates in the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, the governor has all directed local government chairmen and village heads in the state to hold monthly security meetings in their respective domains, in view of security challenges in neighbouring states.

He said doing so would enable the government to contain potential security challenges before they escalate.

The governor gave the directive during a meeting with traditional leaders and Imams in Doguwa and Tudun Wada local government areas, at the palace of their respective District Heads.

The governor solicited their commitment towards peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections in the country.

2019: INEC urges religious leaders to preach against electoral violence

                              

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged religious leaders in Delta to advise their followers to shun violence and other irregularities during the 2019 general election in the state.

The Administrative Secretary of INEC in Delta, Mr Felix Enabor, made the call in Asaba on Tuesday, during an interactive session between the commission and religious leaders in the state.

Enabor who said that the religious leaders had a lot of followers that believed what they preached enjoined them to let their congregations realise the importance of peace during the election.

He remarked that the state had been regarded as a flash point in electoral violence but said that the commission had taken some steps to change the narrative.

He said: “We know people listen to you and things you say matter a lot. Please tell your followers that we want peace in Delta State during this election.

“Also tell those of them that have not collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to go to their Registration Areas as Jan. 16 to collect them. The exercise will last till Jan. 21.”

The administrative secretary said that the commission had taken adequate measures to ensure free and fair election across the state, especially in the riverine areas

The INEC National Commissioner, in charge of Edo and Delta, Dr Mustapha Lecky, also urged them to impress on their followers yet to collect their PVCs, to do so now in their wards.

Lecky, represented by Mrs Angela Ebodaghe, Head of Department Legal Services, INEC, Delta, assured the religious leaders that the exercise would not be compromised in the state.

“INEC has specifically arranged for those who have yet to collect their cards to do so from January 16 to 21, 2019 at the designated centres in their wards.

“We will work with the security agencies to deal with the violators of our electoral laws, including those who may try to compromise our staff responsible for making the PVCs available for collection,” he said

The national commissioner said that smart card readers would be used to confirm, verify and authenticate the voters as well as ensure that the cards were issued by INEC.

He said: “Cloned cards that do not match the codes for a particular polling unit in which the voter is registered will be rejected by the card reader.

“Similarly the claim that the card reader has been enhanced to recapture voter’s fingerprints at polling units and automatically overwrite the biometric record in our database is untrue and should be disregarded.”

Lecky disclosed that some politicians had devised a new method of vote buying but gave the assurance that the commission would forestall it.

The national commissioner said that INEC was aware that some partisan actors were now going round buying up PVCs and inducing voters financially to collect the Voter Identification Numbers VIN) in the PVCs.

“In some instances, telephone numbers and bank account details of voters have been collected

“By collecting the PVCs their intention may be to deprive the voters of voting since no one can vote without PVCs.

“By collecting their phone numbers and bank details, the intention is to induce voters by electronic transfers of funds to their accounts since it will be difficult to buy votes at polling units.

“By collecting the VINs they may be acting on the mistaken notion that our system can be hacked into and the card readers somehow preloaded ahead election, will be compromised.” he stated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslim Council in the state who attended the event promised to support INEC.

They urged the commission to ensure that its staff lived above board during the conduct of the election, stressing the importance of training of the staff.

The Chief Imam, Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, Alhaji Adekola Yinusa, promised INEC that the Muslim clergies would take the message down to their followers.

“God had already commissioned us to do that; it is a duty to God and a duty to the nation,” he said.

Widow drags uncle to court over forced marriage.

                            

A Widow, Ramatu Kabir on Tuesday dragged her uncle Wada Dan-Fulani to a Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari Kaduna  for forcing her to marry one Yahaya Alhaji.

The complaint, who resides at Hayin Dan-Bushiya said through her counsel, Nasir Abdullahi, that she was too matured to be forced into marriage, praying the court to dissolve the union .

“My client lost her first husband 17 years  ago, in which she has a daughter who is a teenager now; She was only informed about  Yahya after the marriage”, he said.

Abdullahi stated that it was wrong in Islam for a father or uncle to force a woman who was once married or had never been married into marriage without her consent.

The defendant who was represented by his counsel, Shuaibu Lawal,  prayed the court to give them time to prepare their defence.

The judge Malam Musa Sa’ad-Goma after listening to both parties adjourned the case until Feb 4th for hearing.

Fallen Heroes: Dogara pledges NASS continuous support

                             

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has pledged the continuous support of the lawmakers to the welfare of officers and men of the armed forces, including family members left behind by the fallen heroes.

Dogara made the pledge on Tuesday in a statement to mark the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja.

He said the National Assembly is ever ready to expeditiously pass any legislative measures proposed by the Executive towards improving the welfare and conditions of service of men of the armed forces, so as to boost their morale.

The Speaker also called for the establishment of special education fund for children of the fallen heroes, as part of measures to improve the welfare of men of the armed forces.

“Today, we remember our fallen heroes, brave men and women of our armed forces, who paid the supreme price by laying down their lives in defence of the unity and territorial integrity of our nation, for the promotion of global peace.

“We remember with honour, and pray for the repose of the souls of these courageous and patriotic unknown soldiers, urging them that their sacrifices will never be in vain.

“We pledge the continuous support of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly to the welfare of our armed forces.

“We in the National Assembly are ever ready to expeditiously pass any legislative measures proposed by the Executive towards improving the welfare and conditions of service of our armed forces so as to boost their morale,” Dogara said.

The Speaker, while thanking the fallen heroes for paying the ultimate sacrifice for the defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria, however lamented that violence is threatening the unity and foundation of the country and its democracy.

He encouraged the armed forces and Nigerians to do everything possible to win the war against terrorism and other forms of violent extremism.

What I know about my successor, Adamu – Outgoing IGP

                            

Outgoing Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has advised his successor to go around the country and adopt measures that would enhance security.

Speaking after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari together with his successor, he said, “I want to inform Nigerians that today I am 60 years and I think I have reached the pinnacle of my career.

“So I am going to handover to my successor, the incoming Inspector General of Police. He is an officer I know very well. We knew each other in the past, we have worked together and I wish him success.

Advice to Adamu

“The advice I will give is that just like in our time, he should try to go round the country and adopt measures to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force give maximum protection to lives and property, ” he said.

Major challenges

“I think so far under this government, I think the Nigeria Police Force has been making a lot of effort  to secure Nigerians. Obviously, there are challenges in the area of recruitment; of course you are aware that the government has just given us approval to recruit more people yearly. By the grace of God, by this year the number of police officers is going to increase considerably.”

Preparation for election

“Obviously, we are adequately prepared for the elections. We have carried out a lot of elections in this country and I think you will agree with me that the Nigeria Police Force tried in these elections. I am assuring Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force is going to do its best in this coming elections.”

Idris leaves, hands over to new IGP Adamu

                            

Retiring Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris is set to handover to the newly appointed acting Inspector General of Police, AIG Mohammed Adamu.

Speaking to State House reporters, after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari together with Adamu, Idris said he would today handover.

“I have reached the pinnacle of my career. Today I’m going to handover to my successor, “he said.

He advised Adamu to understand and go around the country, saying foundation has been laid for the conduct of credible elections.

Also speaking, Adamu thanked President Buhari for considering him worthy as the next IGP.

“We know that there are challenges that we need to tackle. We will strategise to tackle it,” he said.

He pledged to work for free, fair and credible elections, saying, “We are professionals, we are going to stick by the rules.  We will not go outside our rules. ”

Kim Kardashian West has confirmed that she and her husband, rapper Kanye West are expecting their fourth child via surrogate.

Speaking on Monday night’s episode of 'Watch What Happens Live' with Andy Cohen, the reality star, 38, revealed the news after Cohen, who is also expecting his first child via surrogate, asked if she was “working on another child.”

“We are,” Kardashian West responded. The Keeping Up with the Kardashian star also revealed the baby is due “sometime soon.”

“It’s a boy, I think it’s been out there,” Kardashian West told Cohen.

“I got drunk at our Christmas Eve party and told some people. I can’t remember who I told because I never get drunk,” Kardashian West added.

Kardashian West and West, 41, are already parents to daughter North, 5, son Saint, 3, and daughter Chicago, 11 months, who they also welcomed via a surrogate.

What I’ll do as new IGP – Adamu

                                

The newly-appointed acting Inspector General of Police Abubakar Mohammed Adamu has said that he would stick by the rules in piloting the affairs of the police.

Speaking after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari alongside his predecessor, Ibrahim Idris, Adamu said he would work hard to address the insecurity challenges facing the country.

He told State House reporters: ”We know that there are security challenges that we need to tackle in the country: issues of kidnapping, abduction and other security challenges. From the strategies put in place by the former IGP, we will restrategize and make sure that we tackle these challenges squarely.

“On the elections, you have heard from the former IGP, adequate arrangement has been made to make sure that free and fair and credible elections take place in Nigeria. We are going to build up on the strategies put in place to make sure that we have hitch-free elections in the country.

“Well, we are professionals. We are going to stick by the rules, we are going to do the right thing. We will not go outside the ethics of our job to do things that are untoward; everybody will be given level playing ground to play his or her politics.”

Retirement: Buhari, Idris, Adamu in crucial meeting

                               

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with the retiring Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Daily Trust reports.

Adamu who is being speculated as Idris’s successor had earlier met with the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Idris who was appointed on March 21, 2016 to replace Solomon Arase, attained 60 years mandatory retirement age today.

It is being expected that at the end of the President’s meeting with duo, a formal announcement would be made on who succeeds Idris as the country’s number Police Officer.

Man caught stealing inside church paraded in Bayelsa

                            

The young man pictured above was apprehended at about 5am on Tuesday morning after stealing equipment from a church situated in Isaac Boro expressway Amarata, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital.

The suspect simply identified as Junior, was paraded before the public with the items he stole from the church. He has since been handed over to the police.

Nwulu who has identified the Asian tigers as a major success story in the global economy had opened talks with the Taiwan government on November 28th, 2018, on the need to tap into the enormous potentials in Imo State through partnership with his administration when he is elected Governor.

He had hosted the Taiwan Head of Mission of Nigeria,  Vincent Yang in his Abuja home.

Last year, Nwulu was invited by the European Union, EU to Brussels, Belgium where he and EU parliamentarians discussed on vast investment opportunities in Imo State. The EU demonstrated their support to the governorship ambition of the Nigerian lawmaker and promised to partner with him to invest in Imo State when he becomes Governor.

Suspected smugglers kill Customs Officer in Ogun

Suspected smugglers have reportedly killed a Customs Assistant I, Hamisu Sani and injured an Inspector, Tijani Michel in an ambush at Asero community, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It was learnt that the operatives, attached to the Nigerian Customs Service (NSC), Ogun Area Command, on Sunday, were on a routine anti-smuggling patrol in an attempt to secure eight reconstructed vehicles, loaded with smuggled rice and kept in Asero community.

The media further gathered that the suspected smugglers, in a move to resist the vehicles retrieval by operatives of the NCS, laid an ambush, leading to an encounter between the hoodlums and the customs officers.

Sani was reportedly killed following “grievous injuries” he sustained in the encounter.

However, it was learnt that an Inspector of Customs, who equally sustained injuries from machete cut, is recuperating.

The Spokesperson of the Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abeokuta on Monday, confirmed the incident, saying the victim had been buried in line with Islamic rites.

He vowed that the command would ensure the perpetrators “of this devilish act are brought to face the full wrath of the law.”

He however, disclosed that two suspects had been arrested by the Police, while the eight vehicles loaded with smuggled rice had been secured in connection with the incident.

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai to stop chasing shadows and direct their attack on Boko Haram insurgents.

The coalition, in a statement signed by its Spokespersons, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere expressed displeasure over the recent invasion of Abuja and Maiduguri offices of Daily Trust newspaper and the arrest of some of their journalists by military operatives.

He said that rather than chasing imaginary enemies, the president and military should concentrate efforts in finding solution to the insecurity problem in the country.

Ugochinyere noted that the press, which is an integral and indispensable element of the society, exists for the society and it derives its powers to function from the constitution, stressing that the siege to the newspaper outfit showed that the president and the ruling party are not committed to free and fair election despite what they say.

He said: “As stipulated in Chapter II section 22 of the 1999 constitution, the press, radio, television and other agencies of the mass media shall, at all times, be free to uphold the fundamental objectives contained in this chapter and uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people.

“This provision implies that the press shall be a watchdog over the excesses of government, and shall ensure that government delivers it promises to the people. The government, on the one hand, shall ensure that the press informs the people about its programmes and actions.”

“The free society which comprises of people of different ethnic, religious, socio-economic backgrounds are also entitled to free information, as such chapter II section 39 subsection (1) of the 1999 constitution states that every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference.”

“Without prejudice to the generality of subsection I of this section, every person shall be entitled to own, establish and operate any medium for the dissemination of information, ideas and opinions.”

He stated that the existence of these constitutional provisions defines the society with many elements such as the media, police, government, armed forces, citizenry, their rights and boundaries of operations.

BREAKING: INEC presents voters’ register to political parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has presented the national register of voters to political parties.

The body said the official total number of registered voters for the 2019 General Elections is: 84,004,084.

On its verified Twitter handle, INEC revealed, on Monday, that its chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the presentation at the quarterly consultative meeting with political parties.

INEC said, “INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu presents the National Register of Voters to Political Parties. For the 2019 General Elections, the official total number of registered voters is: 84,004,084. ( Eighty Four Million, Four Thousand, and Eighty Four).”
