Christmas: Goat dealers in FCT excited over business boom

Goat sellers in Abuja on Monday expressed joy over high patronage as Christians prepare to celebrate Christmas on Tuesday.
Some of those, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lugbe and Gwagwalada goat markets, described the patronage as “huge,” in spite of the hike in the prices.
Malam Saifullah Adam told NAN in Lugbe that as at 12:00p.m., he had sold more than 25 goats.
Adam, who gets his supply of goats from Katsina state, also expressed delight by the volume of the sales he had recorded so far.
He stated that he bought the goats exorbitantly, explaining the reason for the hike in the prices of the goats.
According to him, the big size is sold for N50, 000, medium for N35, 000 while small size goes for N20, 000.
Another goat seller, Malam Sani Shagari, also expressed delight at the turn out of customers so far in the market.
Shagari told NAN that in spite economic hardship in the country, many people still trooped into market to buy goats to celebrate the yuletide.
Similarly, Malam Aminu Shehu, a goat dealer in Gwagwalada market, described the rate of purchase of the animals as “unprecedented”.
Shehu disclosed that he brought about 100 goats from Sokoto state to sell in Abuja and was now left with only seven.
He expressed optimism that more customers will patronise him and take the left over before the end of the day.
However, a goat buyer, Madam Angela Joseph, decried hike in prices of goats in the market owing to the yuletide.
Joseph said that he had no option other than to buy a goat at the exorbitant price because she was interested in slaughtering a goat to celebrate Christmas.

Nigerian engineers build NPDC gas facility as Baru hails feat

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Maikanti Baru on Monday went round fuel stations to see petrol supply and distribution in Abuja and environs ahead of the Christmas celebration.
Speaking after touring filling stations at Nyanya-Mararaba, Kubwa and Abuja municipal, Baru thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the pump price of petrol remain at N145 per litre despite the huge under-recovery on the product recorded by the corporation at a period in the year.
He said the corporation in collaboration with other sister agencies were able to deal with some of the problems that caused scarcity of petrol last year like supply shortage, hoarding and diversion by marketers.

“There is no filling station that we have gone that has more than one car at dispensing point. This shows that there isn’t any queue unlike 24th of December last year.” Baru said.
“We thank Mr. President for believing in us to deliver, and for being magnanimous to the public. In the course of the year, we had times when we brought in products that indicated under-recovery of almost N80 per litre.
“Today, we are having much lower crude prices and under-recovery has also gone down significantly to the region of N20 and N25 a litre,” Baru said.

Identical twin sisters who share one boyfriend plead for a change in the law so they can be allowed to marry him

A set of twin sisters who refer to themselves as the “world’s most identical twins” have made a desperate plea to be allowed to marry their shared boyfriend.
Anna and Lucy De Cinque, 33, have been dating Ben Byrne for six years now and they believe they are ready to take the relationship to the next level. But the law in Australia where they live does not allow for polygamy.
Identical twin sisters who share one boyfriend plead for a change in the law so they can be allowed to marry him

Speaking at the same time on Australia TV’s "Hughesy, We Have a Problem", the sisters said:
Okay, so we share a partner Ben and we would like marry him one day but the law in Australia says we can’t, so what do we do?
They’ve shared the clip on their own Instagram page with the caption:
We share a unique problem. WE WANT TO MARRY THE SAME MAN.
Polygamy is indeed banned under the Marriage Act 1961, in the country. Yet the twins, from Perth, claim they’ve always had the vision in mind with Ben,  a mechanic. Ben lived a 40-minute drive away from the inseparable sisters, until he moved in with them and their mum in 2017.
Lucy added:
Ben treats us completely equally. If he kisses Anna, he kisses me right after, and holds both our hands when we’re out.
We all sleep together, but it’s not like a threesome as we don’t get involved with each other. Some people say it’s disgusting, but it works for us.

I spoke with slain soldier’s sister not wife – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has retracted his earlier story of speaking with the widow of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba, killed by Boko Haram at Metele last month.
He now said he spoke with the slain soldier’s sister, Marya.
The PDP candidate had opened himself to widespread derision following his online post that he spoke with Seun, Sakaba’s wife.
But the woman denied she received a phone call from Abubakar and wondered why the 72 year-old politician lied.
Abubakar has now set the record straight and apologised for the “erroneous communication”.
Here is Atiku Abubakar’s statement:
“Following the death of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba during the Boko Haram insurgents’ attack on 157 Taskforce Battalion in Metele, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s staff has made efforts to get the contact of his widow to enable the former Vice President express his condolences over the loss of the fallen hero.
“Over the weekend, Atiku Abubakar was availed with phone numbers of Mrs. Sakaba and Maryam, younger sister of the late soldier, in the alternative.
“On Sunday, the former Vice President tried albeit unsuccessfully to contact Mrs. Sakaba but was able to eventually speak with Maryam, younger sister of the gallant soldier during which he expressed his deepest condolences to the family.
“However, this communication was erroneously communicated. The error is regretted.
“Atiku Abubakar, however reaffirms his deepest condolences to the Sakaba family, which sacrifices, like those of their brave son, keeps us safe”.

Nigeria will be finished if President Buhari remains for another four years- Peter Obi

PDP vice-presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says Nigeria will be finished if President Buhari is allowed to remain in office for another four years. Obi said this when he spoke at a conference in Lagos over the weekend.
“We need to know where we are going as a nation but with Buhari at the helms of affairs, we do not know where we are going. Buhari is not in charge of this government as he does not know or care what the poor people are going through. Nigerians are currently the poorest people on earth, yet the Muhammadu Buhari administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is still looking at taxing them the more. Take look at the budget presented by the President a few days ago and you will see that it does not give anyone hope instead, it tells us that we are still where we have always been. A quarter of the budget is meant to service debts, and that is about 60% of the budget while the President keeps telling Nigerians to tighten their belts because of the harsh times staring at us in the future.
“Does that give anyone confidence in this government? Not at all, I dare say. While presenting the budget, he said that the government is looking for ways to tax Nigerians the more. What are you taxing the poor people for? Does that give any one of us hope in this government? That means that if we keep them for the next four years, we are finished.” he said

Senator Shehu Sani has stated reasons Northern elites are silent over the cases of killings and kidnappings that have been happening in the region.
In a tweet, Sani on Monday said it was either the northern political elites were silent due to fear, their belief that the government was doing all that it can to curb kidnapping/killings or simply a case of indifference, as the poor are those most affected.
“Northern political elites are silent on the frequent killings and kidnappings in the north out of any of these three reasons; fear: not to be seen opposing the Government; belief that the President is doing his best; indifference because it’s the poor that are dying.”

Prince Uche Secondus - PDP National Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) has urged all Nigerians to vote out the All Progressives Congress,APC-led government in 2019 in order to build a united, prosperous and peaceful Nigeria.
The Director, Media and Publicity of the the PPCO, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan said in a statement on Monday that Nigerians should use the occasion of Christmas to pray against poverty and hunger in the land.
“This year’s Christmas celebration is unique, in that it marks the last under an oppressive and insensitive administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and his dysfunctional All Progressives Congress (APC), which relish in inflicting hunger, suffering and pains on the people.
“The PPCO laments the ugly situation in which Nigerians cannot celebrate a wholesome Christmas as they use to do prior to the emergence of the Buhari presidency in 2015.
“PPCO however, charges Nigerians not to despair as the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whom they have resolved to elect as their new President, has already perfected templates to revamp our economy and ease suffering in our nation.
“The Atiku Abubakar policy document shows his commitment to entrench greater participation of our citizens in economic activities in various sectors, as against the Buhari exclusionist system, where our collective patrimony is only accessed by a cabal in the Presidency and corrupt APC leaders.
“Nigerians should therefore, celebrate this year’s Christmas, focusing on the brighter future that awaits our nation under Atiku Abubakar as the next President and not on the pessimism and promise of more suffering by President Buhari.
“In this regard, the PPCO urges Nigerians to use the occasion to show love and share with compatriots in anticipation of a brighter future,” the campaign organisation said.

Christmas: Atiku urges Nigerians to show love, celebrate security personnel

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to use the Christmas season to reconcile with one another and show love to others.
Abubakar, in a Christmas message he issued in Abuja on Monday, said the essence of the birth of Jesus Christ was to reconcile man to God.
“Seeing that the essence of Christmas is that Christ came to earth to reconcile us to God, should we not, as beneficiaries of such divine reconciliation, reciprocate it by being reconciled with each other during this Yuletide period and beyond?
“There are too much divisions in our nation today and it is up to each and everyone of us to inject the healing and unifying serum of love for our neighbour into the nation’s consciousness this Christmas.
“We may be Muslim, Christian or traditional religion adherents, but we are all creatures of God deserving of the love of God and of our neighbours.
‘Let that be the attitude we embrace this Christmas and beyond,” he said.
The former Vice President also urged all Nigerians to remember the military and security forces who were on the frontlines defending the country, even as they celebrate Christmas.
Abubakar urged Nigerians to think about the heroes who made the relative peace we live in possible, saying they endure so that we all can enjoy.
He said: “So, when next you see a soldier, boost his or her morale by acknowledging their sacrifices and thanking them.
“Nigeria owes so much to the gallant officers and the men and women of our armed forces.
“They epitomise the spirit of Christmas, which is sacrificial giving. Let us also celebrate the sacrifice our armed forces make for Nigeria.
“On behalf of me and my entire family, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe, prosperous and happy New Year.’’ (NAN)

Nigerian Army introduces drones in its fight against Boko Haram

Nigerian Army introduces drones in its fight against Boko Haram

Nigerian Army introduces drones in its fight against Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army has introduced new technologies and application of drones in the fight against terrorists in the northeast. Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), disclosed this while fielding questions at a dinner and media interactive session organised for editors and defence correspondents in Maiduguri on Saturday.

Buratai said that applications of drones and new technologies were critical in modern warfare to ensure successful implementation of the counter insurgency campaign. He disclosed that the army had utilised drones in surveillance and research, adding that the process was effective in execution of its operations against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents.

Buratai said: “now, even the uniform is technology-based, it will be tagged wherever you are; it sends signal when you are in danger, and these issues are very important. “Technology is playing important role in warfare and we are not left out; we have in place a transformation and innovation department.
“The department is working on research and developments not only on basic equipment but equally more scientific and technological facilities to enable us to carry out our operations.
We are also working on deployment of drones; the Nigerian Air Force has been deploying drones in our operations in the northeast and they are deploying more, it has been very effective in this operation.  “For surveillance, local drones are deployed and when new ones are also deployed, it will be effective and useful in the operation”.
According to him, the military has also deployed modern military hardware, rehabilitated office and house accommodation, clinics and executed viable projects for the improvement of personnel welfare and boost their morale. Buratai added that the military would equally deploy modern scanning machines to check vehicular movements and enhance security on high ways.

The army chief called for closer media-military relation to check the spate of terrorists’ propaganda and campaign of calumny against the Nigerian Army.
